The Mckinnon institute for political leadership

The McKinnon Institute delivers professional development programs that build better political leadership and deliver improved outcomes for Australia. We are a partnership between Monash University - one of the world’s leading research universities - and McKinnon, an independent, non-partisan, not-for-profit organisation who take a long-term view in facilitating the development of political leadership, increasing public sector productivity, creating a thriving democracy and accelerating policy innovation. The McKinnon Institute is non-partisan and not for profit.

Our leadership team represents a unique combination of skills and experience from people at the peak of their disciplines, providing a rich and ever-evolving set of approaches to meet the challenges of political leadership.

OUR PARTNERS

MKI combines the research and teaching capabilities of one of the world’s highest ranked universities, with the focus, agility and ambition of one of Australia’s most forward-thinking philanthropic organisations.

MONASH UNIVERSITY

MONASH UNIVERSITY

Monash is a modern, global, research-intensive university, delivering education and research excellence in Australia and across the Indo-Pacific. Monash is the nation’s largest, most diverse and innovative university, with over 73,000 students and 16,000 staff. It was established in 1958 and is regularly ranked as one of the world’s top 50 universities.

MCKINNON

MCKINNON

McKinnon (previously known as the Susan McKinnon Foundation) was established in 2015 by Sophie Oh and Grant Rule. Our new name signals a renewed commitment to empower better governments, for a stronger Australia. This mission was inspired by Grant’s mother, who instils the values of service and positive contribution in those around her.

As a truly independent, non-partisan, not-for-profit organisation, we believe that real change is possible - but only if we take a long-term view in facilitating the development of political leadership, increasing public sector productivity, creating a thriving democracy and accelerating policy innovation.

These are not separate goals. They are deeply interconnected and mutually reinforce trust. Trust in our leaders, institutions and democracy which help build the conditions for lasting, positive change for all Australians.
