MCKINNON LEADERSHIP

EXCEPTIONAL POLITICAL LEADERSHIP

The quality of Australia’s political leadership directly impacts our nation’s ability to address complex challenges and seize opportunities. The capabilities and character of our political leaders have never been more critical to Australia’s future.

OUR PROGRAMS

This groundbreaking partnership with Monash University addresses a fundamental gap: the lack of structured professional development for parliamentarians. McKinnon Institute (MKI) delivers rigorously curated programs that equip politicians and their advisers to tackle the big challenges. To date, 30% of all parliamentarians have participated in an MKI program.

OUR APPROACH

Advanced Political Leadership

APL is Australia’s first advanced leadership course for members of parliament who are potential ministers in the short-to-medium term.

ABOUT US

MKI approach

Our mission is to strengthen the capabilities of our political leaders, so they can do their jobs, handle pressure, manage crises and deliver better governments and outcomes for Australia.

our people

meet the team

Our leadership team, board and faculty include representatives from politics, research, industry and the public sector, each at the peak of their disciplines.

The McKinnon Prize in Political Leadership is a collaboration between McKinnon and the University of Melbourne and is Australia's only independent, non-partisan award for outstanding political leadership.

Established in 2017, this prestigious award celebrates political leaders who demonstrate exceptional vision, collaboration, courage, and ethical behaviour. By highlighting outstanding leadership examples, the Prize helps counter public cynicism, inspires emerging leaders, and shapes the national conversation about leadership quality in politics.
